Ostiense green corridor

Walking through a post-industrial neighborhood, talking with its inhabitants, spending nights outdoors with its refugees, and mapping the area on both large and small scales, we discovered, among other things, that a sacred river for the ancient Romans once flowed through the center of our plot. Due to its high pollution, it was decided to divert it to a treatment plant—it was the third most abundant river in Rome.
But the river is still alive. Throughout its former course, we find hydrophilic plants breaking through the concrete, striving to reach the light and reveal what once existed there.
Therefore, we propose a large biodiversity corridor, integrating several abandoned ex-industrial sites into the project to create continuity within the masterplan. Additionally, to mark the river’s path, we use hydrophilic trees—those typically found along riverbanks, always in search of moisture.
